1/25/2012 Chief AJ & the National Slingshot Association just Named: 2011 SHOOTER OF YEAR, to be Jeff Pearmain
Man of Valor, Jeff Pearmain who did what has not even been attempted before, set out to get a legal Black Bear with a slingshot. Fist He had to talk Fish & Game into a permit which took three attempts. Which permit obtained He had to make the shot. What courage it took to use a HFX slingshot 4" wide, 7" tall and only 8 oz to shoot an arrow into a dangerous bear at very close range. Jeff made the pressure shot to bag the Bear and become the Fist Slingshot Shooter to earn the coveted NSA "SHOOTER OF THE YEAR" trophy. Congratulations to Champion Shooter Jeff Pearmain.

Way back in the 40's last century Chief
AJ was shooting on a NRA, Jr rifle team, then AFROTC rifle team, next was the US
MARINE CORPS rifle team
.
Alone came the Muzzling Loading Rifle craze then Trap shooting with fancy
shotguns. All the time the Chief was shooting longbows, recurve bows and
compound bows. In the early 80's the fast "QUICK KILL" or "QUICK POINT" shooting
came about. The Chief became fascinated with "QUICK POINT". He just had to
learn "QUICK KILL" and He did it with borrowed Ruger 10/22 rifles.
After
tens of thousands shots with the .22's the Chief mastered "QUICK POINT".
At Lost Valley Lake Resort deep in the Ozark Hills at age 50 shooting 8 days in
a row hitting 40,060 flying targets without a miss with the Ruger 10/22 rifles
that he had fine tuned the Chief shot His way on the front cover of "GUNS"
national slick magazine Sept, 1987. This Instinct Shooting Record that has
not yet been broken but tried at least a dozen times.
HERE IS WHAT HAPPEN AFTER THE "GUNS" magazine came out back in '87:
So many people wanted Chief AJ to teach and coach them in "Quick Kill" shooting that He started a Instinct Shooting Camp which He ran for 23 years. The Chief coached over 3,000 people to be able to shoot trap with a rifle, hit coins in the air and bust tossed up aspirin tablets with 22 rifles, handguns and slingshots. Q: Hey Chief AJ why did you set several shooting records?
A: Because I used to hitch-hike from the USMC base at Barstow, CA
down the Muscle Beach, San Monica, CA to work out with Jack LaLanne.
Here's the records that Jack set:
1954 Age 40: Swam the length of the San Francisco Golden
Gate Bridge underwater with 140 pounds of equipment, including two air tanks… an
undisputed world record.
1955 Age 41: Swam, handcuffed, from Alcatraz to Fisherman’s Wharf in
San Francisco, CA.
1956 Age 42: Set a world record of 1,033 pushups in 23 minutes on “You Asked for
It, a TV Show with Art Baker.
1957 Age 43: Swam the treacherous Golden Gate Channel, towing a 2,500-pound
cabin cruiser. This involved fighting the cold, swift ocean currents that made
the 1 mile swim a 6 ½ mile test of strength and endurance.
1958 Age 44: Maneuvered a paddleboard 30 miles, 9-½ hours non-stop from Farallon
Islands to the San Francisco shore.
1959 Age 45: Completed 1,000 pushups and 1,000 chin-ups in 1 hours and 22
minutes. “Happy” is born and The Jack LaLanne Show goes nationwide
1974 Age 60: Swam from Alcatraz Island to Fisherman’s Wharf, for a second time
handcuffed, shackled and towing a 1,000-pound boat.
1975 Age 61: Swam the length of the Golden Gate Bridge, underwater, for a second
time handcuffed, shackled and towing a 1,000-pound boat.
1976 Age 62: Commemorating the “Spirit of ‘76”, swam 1 mile in Long Beach
Harbor, handcuffed, shackled and towing 13 boats (representing the 13 original
colonies) containing 76 people.
1979 Age 65: Towed 65 boats filled with 6,500-pounds of Lousiana Pacific wood
pulp while handcuffed and shackled in Lake Ashinoko, near Tokyo, Japan.

1980 Age 66: Towed 10 boats in North Miami, Florida filled with 77 people for
over a mile in less than 1 hour.
1984 Age 70: Handcuffed, shackled and fighting strong winds and currents, towed
70 boats with 70 people from the Queen’s Way Bridge in the Long Beach Harbor to
the Queen Mary, 1 ½ miles.

1987, AJ at age 50. With a .22 rifle shot 40,060 straight
little wooden blocks out of the air without a miss:
1997, AJ at age 60 Shot over 5,000 Arterial flying targets with a recurve bow.
1998 AJ at age 61 Pull and Shot the strongest English Yew Bow Bow ever built.
2008, At age 71 AJ shot over 1,400 flying targets with a slingshot
