Yes Sir, right here just off I 57 at West City, IL the public can Slingshot (bow) fish. This the place were with the HFX slingshot a person can do a combination Hunting & Fishing trip without a boat.  Here you can slingshot shoot Carp, many kinds of Gar, Bowfin, Bigheads, Asian Carp & Buffalo rough fish.

I, Chief AJ, went here on 4/15/2010 and shot Carp in the daytime and then at night I had the most fun. I was hunting and stocking large fish in a flooded woods just off the river here below the spillway in the background. As soon as it got dark I was in this flooded area of trees and brush waking in water about 24" deep. The powerful STABALIGHT screwed into the front of the HFX fishing reel seat with a pressure switch on the HFX handle.

I had to move slowly and careful not to stir up the bottom moving the strong beam from the stabalight back and forth in front of me. Then I thought I saw a fish partly down in the mud on the bottom along side a tree root. I took the pressure off of the bright light switch and got ready to shoot the big fish arrow of the HFX. Now, ready I hit the switch and fired at what look like a long bodied rough fish. As soon as the arrow hit the water came alive. Splashing and trashing while the fish was taking out line from the reel on my HFX.

I reeled in and then had to grab the line and fight my way to get a hold of the back of the fiberglass Muzzy fish arrow. I lifted the long heavy fish into the spotlight and saw that it was a Bowfin or Devil Fish or Germinal (different names for the same mean bass eating fish) Last summer I had been to Pearl Harbor and along with going to the Arizona Battle Ship I went through the Submarine named "Bowfin". This US WWII submarine was named the "Bowfin" for as the bowfin eats many fish the submarine sank many ementy ships.

I went on to hunt, stock and shoot several bowfins in the dark this night. Now, I did shoot a root once or twice that looked like a hidden fish. This was a combination of hunting, stocking, shooting and fishing.  The photo if one of the largest that I shoot on this trip. 27 1/2" and 6#4oz. I could and hunted and shoot fish all night there I had the flooded woods all to my self.
