MINI 14

Update: 1/25/2002 Due this MINI 14 page our work on MINI's both 14 & 30 in the WHITE BARN WORKSHOP has really stepped up. This is great for we love to make the MINIs' shoot.

Step by Step, tuning this used and abused Ruger MINI 14

"Shoot & Tune, that is how we make Rifles Shoot. Our shooting bench is only 10 steps from the Work Bench!! We can test our work out to 1,000 yds." - Chief AJ

Here's our work bench inside the White Barn with .30 Carbine in progress. Today we are going to work on a used MINI 14 that we got from a pawn shop. We agree with Col. Cooper that you should know how your rifle is hitting at 200yds and this mini was a 9" 3 shot spread at 200. This MINI 14 needs our full works.

Back 10 steps to the Work bench inside the White Barn and disassemble the MINI. Redo the Metal bedding, rebuild the gas diversion system, clean and lube the op rod. Clean and grease the rails. With special polishing products from Pro-Shot with hand lap and polish the inside for the Bore for over 30 minutes. Do a trigger job with over travel stop to end the rearward movement of the trigger as soon as the hammer is tripped. Trigger was 11 pound pull before and we worked this one down to 3 pounds. Installed our in house Chief AJ compensatory of the "BOSS" type which harmonically controls barrel whip. Redo the top gas block with our Scout Mount to get the line of sight inline with the flight of the bullet. All of these protocols came about after 10 years of working on the MINI 14 & 30

It was a half of a working day later when we got back to the shooting bench and the 200 yd. armor plate life size Coyote.
Wow, 3 shot right where they should be. A spread of 2 1/2" which means that a bullet hits the 200 yard target only 1 1/4" from where the cross-hairs were when the rifle went off. As you can see this was not a nice warm summer day, but winter, snow, 5-8 mph wind and 28. Before Velocity = 3,050 fps After Velocity = 3,220 a gain of 170 fps!!!!

Did shoot a 100 yd. group both before and after Tune Job. Before was 1 3/4" and after on our new Scout Rifle target a small outstanding 3 shot 5/8" group. This was the Deluxe all the way Scour Rifle conversion which cost $500.00 Which does include a new Leopold Scout Scope, comp. and forward mount.
