HISTORY OF RIFLE CAMP
Way back in ’86 Chief AJ set out to set a Rifle Shooting Record on flying targets. He borrowed 18 Ruger 10/22 rifles from members of the Ruger Collectors Association to do the shooting with. First practice session was a disaster for the triggers on the 10/22 were just to harsh to get off a shot in less than a second while a wooden block is flying in the. Chief AJ did not go back to the Gun Club until He had taught Himself to fine tune the little Ruger .22 rifles. Finally after months and many ruined parts the 50 year old Chief AJ at that time had 18 slicked up fine tuned rifles.
He shot wooden blocks out of the air all during the winter of ‘86-87. Blocks like you played with as a kid with the numbers and alphabet on them. All this time trying to find a place that would host a World Record Shoot. After being turned down 11 times Chief AJ went to Lost Valley Lake Resort in the Ozark Hills to shoot for the Resort Manger. Sure enough the Chief shoot lots of the block out of the air for the manger and then unannounced the man took a quarter our of His pocket and flipped it into the air and AJ nailed it. The manger pickup the Quarter and looked through the bullet hole at AJ and said, "Hey, Chief AJ come here and shoot a World Record."
Starting on March 14, ’97 Chief AJ
shot for 8 days all day and hit 40,060 flying blocks with out a miss beating the
old record of 32,860 straight A photographer from "GUNS" magazine was
there the whole shoot and one of the pictures make the front cover of September

Soon after the Big Shoot Chief AJ shoot with the US Olympic Running Bore Team. Then AJ read a Scout Rifle story by Jeff Cooper. Cooper wrote about a light fast rifle that would go on target in a flash able to hit flying clay targets with (trap clay birds). Soon Chief AJ had converted a Ruger 10/22 into a Scout Rifle with the forward mounted scope. On the first try AJ was shooting trap with a rifle. While showing off His new toy at the Bellville, IL Gun Show and tell how fast you get on a moving target with the Scout John Ross was in attendance John Ross (the real JR) had just walked across Africa with Black Powder 4 Bore Rifle taking all the Big 5 Dangerous Game Animals. John Ross wrote the book: "UNINTENDED CONSEQUENCES."
John
Ross asked Chief AJ if He would teach Him how to hit flying clays. That is
exactly what Chief AJ did and Rifle Camp was born.
