HAWAIIAN HOG HUNT

Celebration: Golden 50th Wedding Anniversary
And
Hawaiian Hog Hunt
Chief AJ married his beautiful bride, Corinne, on July 26, 1959. Then they were
blessed with two children, Jason and Becky.
Now comes the good part, Becky moved to Alaska, married and produced for Chief
AJ a slingshot shooting Grandson, JV. For Chief AJ’s Golden 50th Anniversary,
Chief AJ, wife Corinne, Becky, went
to Hawaii for the Celebration.
AJ and Corinne flew to Alaska ahead of time so that the Chief could shoot
slingshots with JV in preparation for the Hawaiian Hog Hunt with slingshots. For
a week AJ and JV shot the Chief AJ Hunting & Fishing Sling shot that shoots
balls or arrows. They shot in the backyard at Becky’s home in Anchorage and then
went to Backcountry Archery Range on Artic Boulevard in Anchorage run by Bill
Cypher. Bill set up the two slingshot shooters with 32” Carbon arrows tiped with Muzzy’s. (Muzzy a 3 blade broad head with a harden chiseled point).

At Backcountry Archery, Bill has a special backstop where JV could practice with
the actual arrows he would be using on the Hawaiian Hog Hunt. Now about the
actual pigs. This was going to be a hunt for the “POLYNESIAN PIGS”. About 1,500
years ago there were no mammals on the Hawaiian Islands. As the Polynesian
Explorers traveled the Pacific Ocean in their Long Canoes, they seeded the
islands with breading pairs of special small jet black pigs. These “Polynesian
Pigs” thrived on the Islands and especially on the Hawaiian Islands.
The Chief hired Hawaiian Guide, Chris Stanley for the hunt with His Grandson,
JV. One of the reasons to hire Guide Chris was that Chris is an Outdoor
Photographer experienced with making TV quality outdoor adventures films. Chief
AJ’s producer, Zach Cook for the Anything Wild TV show says over and over again:
“If not done on camera it never happen”.
After a week’s training in shooting arrows from the Chief AJ H&F slingshot ,JV
felt confident that that “He could put a pig down”. The Chief did not tell 12
year old JV that JV was being trained with the Hi-Power Black Tubes that push
the Carbon 32” arrows at over 225fps. During the week of shooting JV was
strengthening his draw, pulling the bands further back with each secession. By
the time of the hunt on July 30, 2009 JV could do FULL DRAW with the full length
arrows.
Somewhere on the Island of Oahu, Chris the Hawaiian Guide took AJ & JV to a tree
stand set up. JV and AJ were next to each other in clamp on tree stands while
Chris was in a canvas swing harness which enabled him to film almost 360
degrees.

Here's how to prepare for a hunt. JV and Chief AJ shot hundreds of arrows before the one arrow that counted:

Be sure and wear shooting glasses. Bad Boy!
