FULL  TURKEY  STORY, SLINGSHOT

1/13/09 Two days before close of 2008 Turkey Season

Chief AJ, had his portable blind up 3 days ahead of time and for the past two weeks he had been shooting at Turkey head targets One shot per target so that He would have confidence when the big one chance cold shot would come.       

Going to the Blind before Sunrise the temperature  was 16 degrees, wind 12 to18 mph blowing snow. You keep your slingshot inside your insulated coveralls protecting the bands from the cold. The thing is to get your Turkey decoys out before the roosting Turkeys in the tree begin clacking to each other and fly down. The decoys can not be set up the day before because then frost would be on the decoys and not fool any Turkey. 

Shortly after Sunrise the snow quite and some Sunlight was coming through the over cast. The Chief had set out a Jacc and Hen decoy. Where they are by a small frozen creek looking out of one of the blind windows. The Turkeys were coming off the roost and traveling along this creek for the past few days. With the hen and Jacc in place the wind let up on hollowing.

TIME TO CALL

Years ago "Recon Joe" hand carved a cedar *Turkey Call for Chief AJ and taught the Chief how to use it.

The wind letting up let the sound reach a Tom. Here He comes in mad seeing a intruding Jacc.

Quickly the Tom jumped the Jacc decoy and ripped the material. It was about time for that one cold try with Chief AJ's Quick Point slingshots with the Hi-Power Black tubes that had served the Chief so well on the pheasant hunt. Out in front of the Blind the TOM TURKEY is really getting mad. His head is changing colors rapidly, Red, Red and Blue to White back to Blue. It was fastening  to watch but it was time to draw. (The Chief wife of 50 years is sitting in the back of the blind with her back up camera to get this GREAT hunting photo.

Yes, when it is 16 degrees the Chief wears gloves and the Quick Point slingshot can be shot very well with gloves on. For the past two weeks AJ had been practicing shooting form knelling position  as He is here in the blind. The Tom is bogging His head up and down still picking on the Jacc. Head Shot or nothing.

NOW OR NEVER:

On the outdoor TV show you see Turkeys flopping around after shot with a 12ga, full tight turkey choke 3 1/2" load of BBs. You see Turkeys running all around with arrows stuck in them. Chief AJ saw a Turkey drop dead with a smashed in skull from impact of that Big Lead Ball from the 3 oz Quick Point Chief AJ slingshot.  Proven on flying pheasants and Now on a Big Game animal the Wild Turkey.
