This
Daisy Nuts is simply to make you aware of Daisy air rifle that is available
neither from Daisy nor from the Museum.
I first learned of this gun from Daisy Nut John Groenewold.
Since then I have been doing a little investigating with Daisy and
the Chief himself.
Championship
shooter, and Cherokee Chief AJ, had an idea for making an air rifle to use
for target practice that was “man sized.”
He approached Daisy about making such an air rifle.
Here is one of the prototypes he took to them.

The
result was that Daisy and the Cherokee Tribe teamed up to produce the Chief
AJ Special Edition Daisy Adult Sized BB gun designed by ex-Marine and World
Champion Moving Target Shooter, Chief AJ.
About
the Chief, Joe Murfin, the Daisy Vice President of Marketing, said,
“The
Chief is of admirable character and of strong Christian faith.”
Joe
also told me that he heard that Daisy folks saw the Chief shoot paint balls
out of the air with the Chief AJ gun while he was at the Daisy factory.
I was a bit skeptical, not of Joe, but that this could be done.
I asked the Chief about this. He
said this was true. He said he
also shot aspirin tablets while there.
The dude is 70 years old! He
was very enthusiastic about Daisy’s Avanti Precision Shot.
This is what he told me:
“While
deep in the caverns J B [Welch] introduced me to Avanti Precision Ground
Shot and gave me some to try out. My hits on paintballs and aspirin tables
in the air went up with these Super Accurate bbs. I used them at the
Montana State Fair in my shooting exhibitions. I now know why, regular bbs
mic .172 + or -. All my Avanti mic .1755”
One
hundred Chief AJ guns were built on 6/1/05 and as of 11/10/05 (the USMC
Birthday) the Tribe had received 300 Chief AJ BB guns from Daisy. These are
supposed to be a very limited production, but how limited that production
will be, I am not certain. By
the way, of that first 100, dozens were used as prizes and shooters at the
youth camps the Chief is involved in. You
can read more about that at www.chiefaj.com.

The
Chief AJ “Quick Point” set includes the Daisy Chief AJ special
BB gun, autographed by the Chief and instruction booklet for instinct
shooting. This gun is a Model
1938B with an oversized
stock,
with the Chief's image burned into it, and a metal
cocking lever.

Ryder stock and Chief AJ stock.

Chief
AJ tells me that, as far as he knows, there are only two “Indian
Daisys” and those are the Little Beaver Daisy that comes as part of
the Museum Red Ryder and Little Beaver Limited Edition Set and now, the
Chief AJ. I can’t think
of any other Indian Daisys either.
Considering
the fact that this gun is being sold by neither Daisy nor the Museum, it has
the potential to be a very collectable BB gun, not to mention a gun that is
meant to be shot.

So
where can you get this unique gun? The
standard price for this gun is $79.95 with about $13.00 shipping.
But, Daisy Nut, John Groenewold, of JG Airguns is offering the set
for $75 plus $10 shipping IF you identify yourself as a DAISY NUT when
you order. If my math is
correct, being a Daisy Nut saves you about 8 bucks!
Thanks, John!
How do you order? Go to - http://www.jgairguns.biz. Select the Catalogs button and the CLICK HERE button at the bottom of the page, and then you will see the selection for the Chief AJ gun. If you have any problems, email John at jgairguns@direcway.com
John
sent my “Chief AJ” Daisy to me late last week and I hope to see
it tomorrow!
One last thing. For those of you that are thinking that an instinct shooting gun shouldn’t have sights on it….well…I wouldn’t tell the Chief that. He might just challenge you to a paintball or aspirin tablet contest.
My thanks to Joe Murfin, Chief AJ, Bob Boccaccio, and John Groenewold for their help in putting this DN together.
Shoot safe,
Gary
