AJ BB Gun Size & Tutorial on Instinct Shooting

The Chief AJ Daisy Special Edition Instinct Shooting BB Gun is the largest of all bb guns. World Champion Moving Target Shooter Chief AJ has operated a Rifle Training Camp for 20 years (RIFLE CAMP) and during that time came up the proper dimensions for a Quick Point rifle.

During the past two weeks many e-mail have come in asking the measurements of the Adult sized AJ air rifle.

Over all length 36 3/4" just the length that Col. Jeff Cooper told Chief AJ was best for a good field rifle.

The 14 1/2" length of pull (from the trigger to rear of the stock) is a full two inches loner that the Red Ryder bb gun built for 10 year olds.

With 3" "Drop of Comb" puts the shooter on target as soon as the AJ is mounted.  You bring this AJ gun up to your shoulder and you are looking right down the barrel with a instant sight picture.  Chief AJ learned how important "drop of comb" after teaching over 1,800 people Instinct Shooting.

The Daisy AJ comes with Chief AJ's "Quick Point" shooting booklet on how to get started to become a outstanding instinct shooter. Also included in the Colorful "Indian" box is Chief AJ Rifle Camp DVD. The DVD is 13 1/2 minutes long showing you what is like to come to AJ shooting camp in person.

The AJ Daisy weights 3# 4oz.* giving the gun better feeling control for the shooter.

*Wt. loaded. Chief AJ keeps his "shooter" fully loaded when using for Exhibitions which helps him stay on a moving target.

The exact size of this fine AJ Daisy came about from two intense years of R&D shooting prototype bb guns. This was done in 6 states involving over 200 boys, girls and adults.

The AJ Daisy is all beefed up and AJ "Shooter" has shot over 100,000 bbs and going strong.  AJ keeps all the exterior nuts, screws and bolts tight and used heavy oil in the oil hole and metal cocking lever.

Since the first AJ Daisy's were introduced on June 4, 2004, hundreds of people have used them to learn Quick Point shooting and just plain having a good time. Only 1,695 AJ have been made by Daisy in the USA to Chief AJ specifications.

TUTORIAL on Quick Point Shooting:

In photo above note the tools used by Chief AJ is teaching Quick Point shooting:

A. Full sized clay bird  B. Daisy Shatter Blast 2" round clay target with pointed holder C. Tennis ball  D. Soft foam practice gold ball C. Paint balls 5/8" round filled with "paint" that bust with spray when hit with AJ bb gun.

TUTORIAL START:

1. Sight Picture:

Chief AJ teaches the 6:00 0'clock level sight picture. Now the comes the Quick Point part, The AJ gun is designed so the it can be mounted to the shoulder in shooting position and the sights are automatically lined up. With the proper mount you will be looking down the barrel and just over the sights. The sights are only a aid to show you that you have learned the proper mount. After a few hundred shots you will not even notice the sights. This comes with shooting and doing.

2. The Mount:

Now we are right to the "trick" or "knack" or learned behavior and mount the AJ gun the same each time and hitting the same place on your face where you are looking over the sights. Look at the target, mount and get the sights all lined up and then burn into your mind where the stock in on your face. This is called finding the sweet spot or as a archer would say "The Anchor Point". Work on finding the sweet spot or your anchor. With out "dry firing" or pulling the trigger mount over and over and over and over until you can mount with your eyes close and then open them and you see the target. When you can do this you have your "Sweet Spot".  Note the young lady in photo being taught this: Her head is forward, Her face is hard on stock, She is looking right down the barrel. She does not haft to work at a sight picture for the length of pull and drop of comb that Chief AJ designed into the AJ gun takes over. Learning to hit the sweet sport looking straight down the barrel is not a 5 minute thing, the Chief still does this twice a day without shooting a bb. Work on your MOUNT over and over for the reward is become a great instinct shooter.

3. TARGETS:  1A. Please note in the AJ gun photo above the full sized Clay Bird. At 5 of your steeps place several of these targets. Look at one Clay and mount touching the trigger as soon as you hit your sweet spot. Cock, repeat, Cock and repeat, ect.. Break a lot of full sized 4" clays.

2A.Now move to the Daisy Shatter Blast 2" round clay. In photo you will see the pointed stand to place the 2" target in and shoot as above. Here's what to work on: Look at target with both eyes, mount and shoot. The Chief wants you to work hard at this until you can in one motion, mount on the sweet spot and at the same time send a bb to the clay.

3A. Here comes the Tennis ball. Hold the AJ gun with you trigger hand and with the forward arm toss theTennis ball in to the air in front of you and up about 6 to 8 foot. Mount while tracking the moving ball with your eyes wearing shooting glasses. You hit a moving target with a moving AJ. Now you are on your sweet spot tracking the ball and keeping the barrel under the ball or you are seeing the whole ball above the barrel. Keep a firm grip and keep the AJ moving with the ball and come straight back on the trigger. DO NOT STOP moving with the ball as you pull the trigger. This is called "following through". Tennis balls do not do much when hit with a bb. So:

4A. After you can hit the Tennis ball move down in size to the practice golf ball. Use the foam type practice ball and toss like you learned with the bigger ball. NOW when you hit these ball they move, they bounce in the air, it is fun. They carom and sometime go 15 feet fast. A hit is highly visible.  The Chief wants you to learn to hit the golf practice ball that you tossed into the air over and over until you are just to tired to cock any more.

5A. It may take you several sessions or practice times to get to this point. After you can dance the golf foam balls in the air on the fly you are ready for 5A. Now move on down to the paint balls as you see in the AJ gun photo above.  Hitting the tossed paint balls is the real blast. When a bb from your AJ gun hits the paint ball you get a highly visible bust. Each break is different. Do hundreds of paint balls and move on down to aspirin tablets. Do hundreds of aspirin tablets and then move on down to tossed bbs in the air. When you hit a bb in the air it just goes away - it just disappears. When you see this you are a instinct shooter. To get to this point it takes the AJ gun. Keep the exterior  nuts and screws tight on your AJ.  Put a heavy oil in the Oil Hole and up inside the gun where the cocking lever works. (The above Tutorial is worth $385.00 so follow it or come come to AJ's RIFLE CAMP for personal coaching). Now you know that the AJ gun is a true Marksmanship tool.
